There are several ways to lower peaks in usage. Some companies participate in demand response, shutting down or throttling energy usage down during surges (ie., hot summer days). This allows a company to lower its Peak Load Consideration (PLC).
Another way to peak shave is by using onsite battery storage and solar.
When using on-site storage you charge your batteries when electricity prices are low during the off peak hours. Then you can discharge your batteries when pricing is high.
