Energy Efficiency MD

Overview

We have conducted and supported standards development and revision processes for multiple national bodies, including the EPA and DOE. Highlights of this work include the following:

ENERGY STAR – We have worked with ENERGY STAR since its inception. This includes researching, tracking, analyzing metrics to measure program success, guiding the development of new recommendations, and determining the need for criteria revisions, and supported specification-setting processes for clothes washers, dishwashers, refrigerators, freezers, room air conditioners, CFLs, LED lamps, water heaters, windows, doors, and skylights.

ENERGY STAR CFL Third Party Testing and Verification Program – D+R established this program on behalf of DOE in 2008, and administered the program for DOE and then EPA until it ended in 2014.

DesignLights Consortium (DLC) – We work with the DLC to define, develop, and revise technical specifications and qualification policies for LED lighting products.

LED Lighting Facts® – D+R developed and managed DOE’s LED Lighting Facts program, including developing and maintaining verification testing procedures. Today, the program is offered as a service of D+R International.

Attachments Energy Rating Council – We serve as the program manager, which includes planning and monitoring organizational development and developing program policies.

Agricultural and horticultural lighting – D+R developed the first-ever specification for agricultural and horticultural LED lighting.

Appliance standards – From 2006 to 2013, D+R supported the development of appliance standards for DOE’s Building Technologies Office. This included performing technical and market analyses on the state of advanced technologies, costs and benefits to consumers of various efficiency levels, and the ability of the manufacturing community to deliver quality products at various efficiency levels. D+R also calculated usage profiles, created computer simulation models to estimate national energy savings potential and net present value of proposed efficiency standards under multiple scenarios, coordinated with stakeholders; produced technical support documents, and conducted stakeholder workshops.

Data collection and analysis

D+R is the leading analyst of confidential market data relating to energy efficiency. We provide data collection services to multiple sectors, with an emphasis on building and fostering relationships. Industry stakeholders provide data to D+R under non-disclosure agreements. Dozens of leading retailers, distributors, manufacturers, and associations have entrusted us with their data.

Knowing how to analyze data and communicate the results clearly is just as important as easy, fast, and safe data collection. We know how to assess market trends to provide our clients with the insights they need. We have built and analyzed very large datasets for many product areas. D+R has developed a unique partnership with Heating, Air-conditioning & Refrigeration Distributors International (HARDI) to collect HVAC sales data from distributors and produce analytical reports to show market trends and allow participating distributors to compare their performance with the national and regional market.

We work with vast amounts of lighting data in our support of LED Lighting Facts, the DesignLights Consortium, the Northwest Energy Efficiency Alliance’s Reduced-Wattage Lamp Replacement program, and appliance data for ENERGY STAR.
