Renewable energy can be used on the farm to replace other fuels. Likewise, agriculture requires energy as an important input to production. Sustainable agriculture uses energy directly as fuel or electricity to operate machinery and equipment, to heat or cool buildings, and for lighting on the farm, and indirectly in the fertilizers and chemicals produced off the farm.

Agriculture uses water and fertilizer and produces CO2. That is why sustainable farming and organic farming has become so important. Many farmers already produce renewable energy by growing corn to make ethanol. An increasing number of farmers and ranchers are now adding to their incomes by harvesting the wind that blows across their land to make electricity. And new options are becoming available.  Solar energy is beneficial to sustainable Agriculture and sustainable energy in Horticulture. The PV system will harness energy from the sunlight transfer it to electricity or heat. The solar energy may also be helpful for watering purposes such as pumping water.
